What Is Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)?
NEC is a serious and potentially fatal intestinal disease that primarily affects premature infants. It occurs when intestinal tissue becomes inflamed and begins to die, sometimes creating holes that allow bacteria to leak into a baby's abdomen.
