Gabapentin Lawsuit Attorneys
If you or a loved one received six or more separate prescriptions of gabapentin (Neurontin) or Lyrica (pregabalin) for a condition other than seizures or nerve pain, and were later diagnosed with dementia or experienced significant cognitive decline before age 65, you may be eligible to file a gabapentin lawsuit. You trusted that your prescription was safe. A 2025 study found a 29% increased risk of dementia and an 85% increased risk of mild cognitive impairment among frequent gabapentin users, and new research like this suggests you may not have gotten the full picture: these drugs' manufacturers may not have warned patients and doctors clearly enough about the risk to memory and cognitive health. Our gabapentin lawsuit attorneys at Edgar Snyder & Associates are here to help you understand your options and fight for your family. Since 1982, we have helped more than 75,000 people recover billions. There is never a fee unless we get money for you.

What Is Gabapentin?
Gabapentin is a nerve medication sold under brand names including Neurontin, Gralise, and Horizant, and prescribed to millions of Americans every year. Neurontin is FDA-approved to treat epilepsy and postherpetic neuralgia, the nerve pain that follows shingles. Gralise and Horizant carry their own narrower FDA-approved uses. But gabapentin, in all its forms, is also one of the most widely prescribed off-label drugs in the country, routinely given for chronic back pain, migraines, anxiety, fibromyalgia, and restless leg syndrome, conditions the FDA never evaluated it for.
Lyrica (pregabalin) is a closely related drug in the same class, prescribed for many of the same reasons and carrying the same off-label pattern. This litigation covers both. Unless we say otherwise, everything on this page about gabapentin eligibility applies equally to Lyrica.
Why Are Gabapentin Lawsuits Being Investigated?
If you or someone you love took gabapentin for months or years and is now living with memory loss, confusion, or a dementia diagnosis that seemed to come out of nowhere, you're probably asking the question a growing number of researchers have started asking too: could the medication be connected? Between 2023 and 2025, a series of large studies looked for an answer. The most-cited, published in 2025 in Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine, followed patients with six or more gabapentin prescriptions and found a 29% increased rate of dementia diagnoses and an 85% increased rate of mild cognitive impairment diagnoses within 10 years.
In these large patient populations, people with frequent gabapentin use, especially off-label use, were diagnosed with dementia and mild cognitive impairment at significantly higher rates. That's exactly why attorneys are now investigating whether gabapentin's manufacturers knew about this risk and failed to warn patients and doctors clearly enough.
Signs of Cognitive Decline After Taking Gabapentin
Cognitive decline rarely announces itself. It's more often a family member who notices first: repeating the same question, losing track of a conversation, getting lost somewhere familiar. If you or someone you love has taken gabapentin or Lyrica long-term, here's what's worth paying attention to:
- Trouble with everyday tasks you used to handle easily, or getting lost in places you used to know well
- Needing help with personal hygiene or daily routines, or no longer feeling safe behind the wheel
- Increased confusion, irritability, or mood and personality changes
- Losing track of the day, date, or year
- Forgetting familiar people, important dates, or recent conversations
None of this is a diagnosis, and this page isn't meant to be one. If you're noticing these changes in yourself or a family member, talk to a doctor and make sure it's part of your medical record. That record is exactly what our attorneys would need to review. If a doctor has already diagnosed dementia or mild cognitive impairment and gabapentin or Lyrica is part of the medical history, that's when it's worth talking to us too.
Gabapentin Lawsuit Timeline
The settlements below are part of gabapentin's history, but they were about how Neurontin was marketed off-label, not about memory loss or dementia. The dementia litigation is a newer, separate chapter, driven by the research findings below from 2023 and 2025.
Statute of Limitations
Every state sets its own deadline for filing a product liability or personal injury claim, and that deadline can depend on when you were diagnosed, not just when you started taking gabapentin. Some states also apply a “discovery rule,” which can extend your filing window if you couldn't have reasonably connected your diagnosis to gabapentin use right away. Deadlines vary across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, and New Jersey, so it's important not to wait. Contact us today so we can confirm your deadline and make sure your case is protected.

Who Is Eligible to File a Gabapentin Lawsuit?
Qualifying situations typically include factors like:
- Received six or more separate prescriptions of gabapentin or Lyrica sometime between 2000 and 2024
- Prescribed for a condition other than seizures or shingles nerve pain (postherpetic neuralgia), such as back pain, migraines, anxiety, fibromyalgia, or restless leg syndrome
- Diagnosed with dementia, or experienced significant symptoms of cognitive decline that you've reported to a doctor, before age 65. A formal dementia diagnosis isn't required to start the conversation.
- The decline showed up after you started taking gabapentin or Lyrica, and it's reflected in your medical records
We're not currently able to take cases from residents of Texas, Michigan, Alabama, Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, Tennessee, or Virginia.
It doesn't matter which form of gabapentin or Lyrica you took:
- Brand-name Neurontin (Pfizer)
- Gralise
- Horizant
- Generic gabapentin
- Brand-name Lyrica (Pfizer)
- Generic pregabalin
Think you or a loved one might qualify? Our gabapentin lawsuit attorneys can review your case at no cost. Call us any time, day or night, or fill out the form on this page to get started.

What to Expect From Your First Call
