US Steel Clairton Coke Works Plant Explosion
Plant Explosion
Medical and emergency crews were on the scene after an explosion at the US Steel Clairton Coke Works plant leaves at least one person dead with multiple others either injured or unaccounted for. Crews have been searching for people trapped in the rubble. Lt. Governor Austin Davis urged the Mon Valley community to stay away from the area while emergency crews worked at the scene. Governor Josh Shapiro also issued a statement urging those nearby to follow the direction of local authorities.
“This is a terrible situation for the entire Clairton community, the workers, and their families. As someone whose dad still works in a steel mill, and as a firm that has multiple employees whose family members have worked in mills, this hits home for us. We’re here to help and support the injured workers, their families, and the community in any way we can.” – Attorney Robert Fisher
