Adaptive Bikes for Children With Disabilities

By:

Variety's "My Bike" Program

For most children, riding a bike is nothing out of the ordinary. But for a child who struggles to even walk, having that same opportunity can transform their life.

Variety the Children's Charity began the "My Bike" program to provide adaptive bicycles to children with disabilities in Pittsburgh and throughout Western Pennsylvania. At Edgar Snyder & Associates, we've helped thousands of people with disabilities. An adaptive bike costs about $1,800, and for many families, that cost is too high. That's why our law firm decided to get involved.

Our Variety Programs

variety sponsors

We launched our partnership with Variety during the 2012 holiday season by providing adaptive bicycles for two children and donating toys for the Variety holiday party. Since then, we've been honored to partner with Variety in several different ways.

  • In 2017, we started "Assists for Kids" with the Erie BayHawks. For every assist recorded during BayHawks' home games, we will make a donation to Variety to support their "My Bike" and "My Voice" programs.
  • In 2016, we hosted a bike presentation ceremony for seven children and their loved ones. It was an honor seeing these special kids ride a bike for the first time right here in the US Steel Tower and meeting their incredible families.
  • Starting in 2015, we partnered with the Altoona Curve for "Bases for Bikes." For the second year in a row, we'll donate $50 to the "My Bike" program for every base that's stolen during a Curve home game.
  • "Power Plays for Kids," involved another local sports team. For every power play goal the Erie Otters score during the 2014 – 2015 season, we'll donate $50 to Variety for adaptive bicycles.
He rides his bike around and it has brought him pure joy and fun—two things that should be fundamental in every child's life. His bike has become his own personal biggest treasure."My Bike" Parent
