Proud to Partner With Pittsburgh Baseball Star Josh Harrison and Dreambuilders
The Dreambuilders Foundation
Dreambuilders Foundation is a nonprofit organization that connects professional athletes with community programs to benefit children in need and children with disabilities. Each athlete designs their programs around the causes he or she is most passionate about. Started by former NFL linebacker Akin Ayodele, Dreambuilders has athlete "captains" in cities throughout the United States.
Pittsburgh's Dreambuilder is third baseman Josh Harrison. Our law firm is proud to team up with Josh to support his Dreambuilders initiatives, which include Blessings in a Backpack and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Blessings in a Backpack & the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
Almost 70 percent of the children in our country benefit from the free and reduced price lunch program, which provides healthy lunches to kids while they are in school. This means that for five days a week during the school year, these students are guaranteed at least one nutritious meal a day. But what happens over the weekend?
Blessings in a Backpack was started in 2005 with this question in mind. The Blessings program provides food for kids on the free and reduced price lunch program to take home for the weekend. The program serves over 72,000 students in more than 700 schools throughout the country.
Our law firm has adopted a local Blessings in a Backpack program, and is proud to work with Dreambuilders and Josh to make sure that local kids don't go hungry.
We are also teaming up with Josh and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on a similar project to help kids.
The Boys & Girls Clubs
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania are an institution in many of our neighborhoods. Founded in 1888, over 7,000 children and teens now use the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western PA for homework help, arts programs, sports, mentoring, and more.
Along with Josh Harrison and Dreambuilders, our law firm completed the renovation of a learning lab at the Sto-Ken-Rox Boys & Girls Club. Nearly 100 kids use this Club every day, and the space was in dire need of improvements. "It is important to keep a welcoming appearance so that the children feel special when they walk in," says Kevin Nicholson, Branch Director of this McKees Rocks location.
"Our Club is vital to the surrounding community. It offers a place for these children where they can feel safe and be off the streets," says Mr. Nicholson.
