Ohio Car Seat and Booster Seat Laws

Rear-Facing Car Seat

Law states no preference.

Car Seat

Children ages 3 and under or weighing less than 40 pounds must be properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat.

Booster Seat

Children 4 through 7 years who weigh 40 pounds or more and who are shorter than 57 inches must be in a booster seat.

Seat Belt

Children ages 8 through 14 must wear a safety belt in all seats in the car.

Seating Position

Law states no preference.

Fines & Penalties

Maximum fine for first offense is $75.
