McKnight Elementary Receives $1,000 for Student's "Holiday Wish"
10-Year-Old Wins 10th Annual Edgar Snyder & Associates Coloring Contest
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 3, 2013, Pittsburgh, PA – When asked to describe her holiday wish, 10-year-old McKnight Elementary School student Adelle Schott didn't mention the latest gadget or coolest new toy. Her wish? "Peace on Earth."
Adelle is the Grand Prize winner of the 10th Annual Edgar Snyder & Associates "My Holiday Wish" Coloring Contest Coloring Contest. For her original creation, Edgar Snyder & Associates donated $1,000 to McKnight Elementary in her honor and awarded her with at $250 gift card. Her artwork is also featured on the cover of the law firm's 2013 holiday greeting card.
The winning illustration features a musical snow globe with "peace" written in different languages. A vibrant blue and green earth is suspended in the snow globe and surrounded by colorful snowflakes shaped like peace symbols.
Adelle, who has a collection of snow globes of her own, incorporated one in her drawing to help express her feelings about conflict going on in the world today.
"Looking at this year's entries, I was inspired by the level of creativity and thoughtfulness coming from such young children," said Attorney Edgar Snyder, whose law firm has supported community service initiatives like these for more than 30 years. "It's a great way to support local schools and also deliver an encouraging message to our staff and clients."
Students across Western Pennsylvania submitted more than 800 entries to this year's contest. An independent panel made up of local parenting bloggers and an advertising executive met on November 4th to judge the entries based on design and creativity. The judges included included: Ed Bittner, Lamar Advertising account executive; Nadine Champsi, writer at The Pittsburgh Mommy Blog; Samantha Rawagah, writer at My Jordanian Nugget; and Becky Willis, writer at ‘lil Burghers.
"After being told that she won by her art teacher, Mrs. Devine, Adelle could not stop smiling. She skipped all the way back to her classroom," said Adelle's father, George Schott. "She is thrilled and proud that she helped her school."
