Cambria Heights Elementary Students Win Coloring Contest

December 3, 2013, Pittsburgh, PA – Two students from Cambria Heights Elementary School are winners of the 10th Annual Edgar Snyder and Associates "My Holiday Wish" Coloring Contest. Trey Trybus, age 6, and Grace Jasper, age 9, each won a $100 gift card and for their artistic submissions chosen from more than 800 entries from across Western Pennsylvania.

"Looking at this year's entries, I was inspired by the level of creativity and thoughtfulness coming from such young children," said Attorney Edgar Snyder, whose law firm has supported community service initiatives like these for more than 30 years. "It's a great way to support local schools and also deliver an encouraging message to our staff and clients."

Grace's Holiday Wish: For All To Have Shelter, Food, and Friendship

Grace"Welcome to the igloo for the homeless," is the message displayed on a snowman's sign in Grace's imaginative winter scene. In her drawing, penguins in winter hats help each other by providing food, shelter, and friendship.

Dan Jasper, Grace's father, says that Grace has shown an interest in art since pre-school and is constantly improving. "She was all smiles when we got the news. She hasn't thought about the gift card yet—I think she is just happy she was picked."

In addition to art, Grace's interests include girls' softball and dance, which she has been involved in for a number of years.

Mr. Jasper also shared a special wish this holiday season: "Our wish for our community is for everyone to have their needs met and to remember where it all comes from and be thankful."

Trey's Holiday Wish: For Snowmen to Lend a Helping Hand

TreyTrey's illustration displays colorful handprints, snowmen, and snowflakes, and reads, "My Holiday Wish is for Snowmen to Lend a Helping Hand."

When asked about the inspiration behind his art, Trey responded,"I like when my friends help me at school and I want to be helpful to other kids, too! It is nice when people help each other."

Trey is one of five children in the Trybus family, and looks up to his older brother Tanner for his creativity. His hobbies include playing sports, hunting with his dad, and making "loom" bracelets.

"The smile on Trey's face when I told him that he won this contest was priceless!" said Melanie Trybus, Trey's mother. "Trey was definitely beyond excited when he heard this wonderful news. He ran around the house chanting, ‘Yes, I won! Yes, I won!'"

Additional Winners

An independent panel made up of local parenting bloggers and an advertising executive met on November 4th to judge the entries based on design and creativity. The judges included included: Ed Bittner, Lamar Advertising account executive; Nadine Champsi, writer at The Pittsburgh Mommy Blog; Samantha Rawagah, writer at My Jordanian Nugget; and Becky Willis, writer at ‘lil Burghers.

Adelle Schott, age 10, won the $1,000 grand prize, which the firm donated on her behalf to McKnight Elementary in Pittsburgh, PA. She also received a $250 gift card for herself and her artwork is featured on the cover of the firm's holiday card. Emma Maphis, age 10, of Asbury Elementary in Fairview, PA was selected as a runner-up and received a $100 gift card and her artwork is displayed on the back of the holiday card.
