Toyota is recalling over 1 million popular vehicle models for faulty airbags and windshield wipers. Two car accidents and 18 injuries have been reported in association with the airbag problem so far.
The defective airbags affect about 725,000 Corolla and Corolla Matrix cars sold in 2003 and 2004. Toyota says that the airbags can deploy inadvertently. The windshield wiper issue affects 270,000 Lexus IS models sold between 2006 and early 2012. The wipers may fail to operate if there is heavy snowfall.
This is just the latest in a series of Toyota recalls that have been issued in the past few years. Previous recalls were triggered by faulty brakes, steering wheels, gas pedals, and floor mats. Executives have since promised to improve quality controls and recall procedures.
