Pittsburgh Hit-and-Run Accident Kills Bicyclist

A man riding a bicycle on Penn Avenue in Point Breeze was killed this morning when he was hit by a car. The driver then fled the scene.

According to police responding to the bicycle accident, the rider was hit at the intersection of Penn Avenue and Penfield early Wednesday morning. He was then thrown from his bike and landed on the sidewalk in front of a nearby home. Shortly after, he was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses say they saw a white vehicle strike the bicyclist and then flee the scene, heading toward East Liberty. Police say a description of the driver is not currently available, but that the car should have significant front-end damage. Additionally, they urge anyone with information on the suspect to contact homicide detectives at 412-323-7800.
