Recent Hit-and-Run Accidents Highlight the Importance of Bicycle Safety

bicycle accident

The city of Pittsburgh has been making great strides to improve bicycle safety, and with the new Pennsylvania bicycle safety law, you'd think there would be fewer stories in the media about bicycle accidents. It saddens me to see that unfortunately, that's not the case. Just this morning, a fatal hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a cyclist in Point Breeze. This tragedy is just one of the many hit-and-run accidents that have taken place throughout the city recently.

I've been an avid cyclist for the past 60 or so years, and I've experienced first-hand some very close calls while riding in the city. I can't stress enough how important it is for cyclists to take extra safety precautions when riding in traffic. Additionally, it's critical that drivers follow the new state safety laws and share the road with cyclists.

Recently, our firm has been stepping up its efforts to increase bicycle safety awareness. We've sent brochures to local bicycle shops that include information on bicycle safety, an explanation of Pennsylvania's new bicycle safety law, and insurance advice for bicyclists. I even created a Public Service Announcement talking about the importance of sharing the road.

Our firm also has some other great resources for cyclists:

Sometimes even the safest cyclists and drivers can end up in an accident. I hope that by focusing on the importance of bicycle safety, we can prevent more tragedies from happening and keep roads safety in our city.
