Southwestern Pennsylvania's Most Dangerous Roads

Channel 11 News recently worked with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to identify the most dangerous roads in our area. They focused on car accidents that happened in counties outside of Allegheny County over a five-year period, and here is what they found:

Butler County:

  • Evans City Road – 131 accidents

Fayette County:

  • Route 119 near Connellsville – 87 accidents
  • Route 21 near Uniontown – 42 accidents
  • Route 40 near Uniontown – 32 accidents

Washington County:

  • Morganza Road in Canonsburg – 47 accidents

Westmoreland County:

  • Route 30 in North Huntingdon Township, between Colonial Manor Apartments and Malts Lane – 156 accidents
  • Route 66 in Washington Township, intersection of Beaver Run Road – 93 accidents and three deaths

PennDOT officials said that they are taking steps to make many of these areas safer. Last year, Channel 11 investigated the most crash-prone sites within Allegheny County. Topping the list was Route 51 in Pittsburgh, also known as Saw Mill Run Boulevard, with 188 accidents.
