Bellefonte Area High School Senior Wins Scholarship

Bellefonte Area High School senior, Kate Wilt of Bellefonte, PA, is the $500 scholarship winner in the 2008 Edgar Snyder & Associates “Words to be Heard” scholarship contest. The scholarship will be used toward her Grove City College education.

Seniors attending high schools throughout Central Pennsylvania were invited to write a 1,500 to 2,000 word proposal for a program that would teach pre-teens and teenagers the consequences associated with underage drinking.

In addition to the $500 scholarship, Edgar Snyder & Associates awarded a $2,500 scholarship prize to Lindsay Matolyak of Greater Johnstown High School in Johnstown. A $1,000 scholarship prize was awarded to Joshua Kennedy of Central High School in Martinsburg. Two other runners-up also received $500 scholarships. Those winners include: Andrew Saylor of Meyersdale Area High School in Meyersdale and Julia Flores of Altoona Area High School in Altoona.

“We wanted this contest to help us learn, from teens, what we can do to help prevent alcohol-related tragedies among their peers,” said Attorney Edgar Snyder.
