PA Motorcycle Deaths and Injuries on the Rise
The statistics don’t bode well for motorcycle riders who choose not to wear a helmet.
A new study by the Pennsylvania legislative committee reports that since the state repealed the mandatory helmet law in 2003, the number of deaths of riders not wearing helmets has increased about 30 percent. Even worse was news that critical injuries are up 100 percent.
This study comes on the heels of the well publicized motorcycle accident by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who was not wearing a helmet while riding his bike and sustained multiple injuries.
Now Pennsylvania’s emergency room doctors are calling for the reinstatement of Pennsylvania’s helmet law. Bikers counter that accidents are on the increase because of more bikes on the road. They also cite their right to choose not to wear a helmet.
