Honda Offers a Motorcycle With an Airbag

September 2005

Introducing the newest technology in motorcycle safety: the air bag. Honda Motor Co. announced that it will be the first motorcycle manufacturer to outfit an air bag on a motorcycle, the 1800cc Gold Wing bike.

Honda officials are making it clear that the air bag will not help in all accidents, but the air bag is designed to protect riders in full-frontal crashes. The air bag is positioned under the handle bars and sensors are located near the front tire to detect a collision.

Honda believes the air bag will help to reduce the severity of injuries, as it should act as a buffer during impact. The airbag equipped bikes are available in the U.S. market starting in spring, 2006.
