Food Recalls Hit Local Supermarkets
August 2007
Supermarket chains in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland
have two serious recalls of products that pose a risk of food poisoning.
Marie Callender Turtle Pies have been recalled from Giant Eagle, Hy-Vee,
and Kroger Supermarkets for possible microbial contamination. Kroger
Mustard Potato Salad and Southern-Style Potato Salad have been recalled
from the supermarket chain due to a risk of E. coli poisoning.
American Pie has recalled 1440 cases of Marie Callender Turtle Pies due to a potential risk of food poisoning from unconfirmed microbial content. They are marked with date codes beginning in 07 followed by times ranging from 11:45 to 16:00 and ending in 143. The frozen pies were shipped without company permission to supermarket chains including Giant Eagle, Hy-Vee, and Kroger stores in MD, OH, PA, and WV.
Kroger has also announced a recall of their store brand Mustard Potato Salad and Southern-Style Potato Salad. The supermarket chain pulled the products with a “Best If Used By” date of September, 5 2007 after the Ohio Department of Agriculture tested the potato salads positive for the presence of E. coli O157:H7, a dangerous form of food poisoning. The tainted Kroger brand items were sold at Kroger supermarkets including stores in Ohio and West Virginia.
