Salmonella Outbreak May Be Over

November 2006

The most recent salmonella outbreak appears to be over, according to health officials. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not feel the need to have a consumer warning on produce any longer.

The FDA believes whatever caused the salmonella poisoning must have either been consumed, destroyed or thrown out. In all, 171 people were sickened in 19 states, but fortunately there were no deaths. The outbreak may have been linked to tomatoes or other fresh produce but the definite source was not able to be indentified.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to interview the salmonella victims, but information gathered has been inconclusive.
