Salmonella Threat to Humans and Pets
April 2007
An urgent message for pet owners – you are also at risk for Salmonella
poisoning if you handle contaminated pet food. Dingo brand dog, cat, and
ferret treats have been recalled by manufacturer Eight in One amid
concerns of Salmonella bacterium in the product.
The affected varieties are:
- Dingo Chick'n Jerky
- Dingo Kitty Chicken Jerky
- Dingo Ferret Chicken Jerky
The recall comes at a time when hundreds of wet pet food brands have been pulled from stores nationwide. While the Dingo alert is unrelated to the tainted “cuts in gravy” pet food recall, the threat to humans is much higher as handling the treats could spread Salmonella.
