Contaminated Lox Recalled from PA Stores
July 2008
A West Virginia company has recalled smoked salmon lox because the
product may present serious health risks to certain consumers. Salmonlux
Inc.'s Wild Alaskan Smoked Salmon Lox was found to contain Listeria
monocytogenes, an organism that can cause fatal reactions in
children, the elderly, and in those with compromised immune systems.
The lox affected by the recall is lot # 01418, sold in blue, three ounce packages. The recalled product was sold in Von's retail outlets in Arizona, California, and Nevada and in Food Lion stores in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia.
In healthy individuals, symptoms of Listeria food poisoning include high fever, stiffness, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
