E. coli Beef Recall by PA Company

There’s been another recall of ground beef due to a risk of food poisoning and this one hits close to home. Cargill Meat Solutions of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania has recalled over one million pounds of ground beef sold under various brand names, including Giant Eagle, because the meat may be tainted with E. coli.

All recalled packages of ground beef have “use by / freeze by” dates ranging from 10/19/2007 to 11/03/2007. The packaging will also be marked with “EST. 9400” in the USDA seal of inspection.

This recall comes less than one week after E. coli was found in 3.3 million frozen pepperoni pizzas, and less than two months after a recall of 21.7 million pounds of frozen ground beef tainted with E. coli. In July, Castleberry’s recalled countless canned beef products tainted with botulism. In April of 2007, beef from a Pennsylvania restaurant chain, Hoss’s, was identified as the common link in a PA outbreak of E. coli.
