Bagged Lettuce Recalled due to E. coli
September 2007
Think twice before you bite into your freshly prepared salad – your
lettuce may be tainted with E. coli. The dangerous form of food
poisoning was found in bags of Dole Hearts Delight, ready-to-eat lettuce
shipped and sold in at least nine U.S. states including Pennsylvania.
The tainted lettuce has a best by date of September 19, 2007. The production code should read “A24924A” or “A24924B” stamped on the package. Over 500 bags were shipped to Canada, while over 4,500 bags were shipped to American states including Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
A recall of the Dole Hearts Delight product was prompted by a Canadian grocery store that confirmed the presence of E. coli O157:H7 through a random screening test. This recall comes less than a month after Metz Fresh recalled bagged spinach due to Salmonella contamination.
