Botulism Linked to Carrot Juice
October 2006
Bolthouse Farms of Bakersfield, CA has voluntarily recalled their 100% Carrot Juice after four people became ill with Botulism. The recall was a precautionary measure to verify that the Botulism cases were not a result of their product handling, but due to temperature abuse by consumers.
The 1 liter and 450 milliliter recalled products include:
- Bolthouse Farms 100% Carrot Juice
- Earthbound Farm Organic Carrot Juice
- President’s Choice Organics 100% Pure Carrot Juice
Use by dates up to ‘11Nov06’ are included in this recall.
Carrot juice must be kept refrigerated to ensure product safety no matter the manufacturer or brand. It has the potential to develop Botulism if not refrigerated properly or exposed to extreme temperatures for an extended period of time. The FDA has found all samples taken from Bolthouse Farms to be toxin-free.
