Jury Awards $643,844 Slip & Fall Accident
August 2003
Our client, a 39-year-old man, slipped and fell in the parking lot of a motel after a snow storm. As a result of the fall, our client suffered a broken ankle that required surgery to insert a plate and screws. Future surgery will be required to remove these devices.
The orthopedic surgeon testified that our client now suffers from
traumatic arthritis in the injured ankle. In addition, our client
maintained that the fall resulted in a closed head injury which impaired
his cognitive functions. As a result of the head injury, our client was
rendered unable to perform work skills required to pursue his career as
a police officer.
Attorney Todd Berkey maintained that our
client's injuries were directly attributed to the motel's failure to
maintain the parking lot in a safe condition. The jury found the motel
to be responsible for our client's severe ankle injury. The jury awarded
our client a verdict of $643,844.
