Otho Evra Faces Multiple Lawsuits

November 2006

Several women are suing the maker of a popular birth-control patch, Ortho Evra, saying it caused serious illness and even led to the death of a young woman. Forty-four women in all are suing Ortho-McNeil makers of Ortho Evra.

The first lawsuit claims 43 women experienced blood clots and other health issues after using the birth-control patch, which has become the fastest-growing birth control method. In a second lawsuit, a 25-year-old woman died of blood clots in her legs and lungs after she began the birth-control patch.
