Natrecor Linked to More Deaths

January 2006

Natrecor, a drug designed to help aid breathing problems related to heart failure, has been linked to two more deaths. This means, to date, seven people have died within 30 days after taking the drug that also goes by the name nesiritide.

A New York cardiologist believes the risks associated with the Natrecor are understated and that it should be taken off the market. According to a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson who produces the drug, the deaths were from patients in a study three years ago that were never reported.
