Texas Girl Killed by Pit Bull
January 2007
With the start of the new year comes the first report of a fatal pit bull attack. A San Antonio girl was killed while trying to help untangle a pit bull with its collar caught on a chain link fence.
Ten-year-old Amber Jones was playing in her backyard when the neighbor’s pit bull jumped the fence-as he had done many times before. Although Amber was familiar with the dog, the pit bull attacked when she attempted to help, biting her on the stomach and neck. As the victim’s mother unsuccessfully tried to fight off the dog, a man rushed to add the needed strength to get the dog away from the girl and her mother.
The victim’s family wants others to use their tragedy as a lesson about the dangers of dogs. The dog is in custody of Animal Services and will likely be euthanized.
