Tool Bench Toys Recalled after Two Children Die
September 2006
Playskool and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled 255,000 “Team Talkin’ Tool Bench” toys after two children died.
A 19-month-old boy and a 2-year-old boy both suffocated after the oversized toy nails sold with the tool bench sets became lodged in their throats. The CPSC said the toy warning did not include a choking hazard because the parts weren’t considered small by the agency’s standards.
The Team Talkin’ Tool Bench is a 20-inch tall toy tool bench that includes a child’s red saw, yellow drill, hammer, screwdriver, two 2 ¼ inch plastic screws, and two 3-inch plastic nails. The toy talks and makes sounds, and has a red Playskool logo on the front surface.
The toy bench was sold at Wal-Mart, Target and various other stores from October 2005 to September 2006. Consumers should immediately take the toy nails away from children and contact Playskool at 1-800-509-9554 for a $50 certificate.
