ShiR Toothpaste Recalled by Distributor
June 2007
In accordance with the Food and Drug Administration, Gold City
Enterprise has announced a nationwide recall of ShiR brand toothpaste.
The Florida-based company distributed the imported toothpaste made in
China, which was found to contain a hazardous chemical used in
antifreeze.
The recalled varieties of ShiR toothpaste include:
- ShiR Fresh Mint Fluoride Toothpaste – Lots 777A, B, C, and D
- ShiR Fresh Ice ShiR Mint Fluoride Toothpaste – Lot 2471A
- ShiR Fresh Cool ShiR Mint Fluoride Toothpaste – Lot 2471B
The harmful agent contained in the toothpaste is diethylene glycol (DEG). This chemical is a potential toxin, most often used in antifreeze and as a solvent. DEG may have dangerous or deadly effects upon the Central Nervous System, kidney, or liver.
