Recalled Toxic Sealer Still in Homes

October 2007

Stand 'n Seal spray recalled Check your garage and your home cabinets – a dangerous waterproof sealer spray that stayed on the store shelves long after it was recalled may still be in your home. Sold exclusively at Home Depot, Stand 'n Seal is a hazardous aerosol sealer spray that has sickened at least 80 people and led to two deaths.

In June of 2005, Home Depot recalled the Stand 'n Seal spray manufactured by BRTT. The chemical mixture of the product had been altered previous to the recall, and the inclusion of Flexipel S-22WS as an ingredient proved extremely dangerous. Consumers who used the spray without proper ventilation found themselves short of breath, fainting, and even visiting the hospital for their lung injuries.

The product was recalled and replaced by BRTT, but the replacement failed to remove the Flexipel S-22WS chemical. The same dangerous ingredient remained on Home Depot shelves until March of this year, when it was finally removed. Due to the lack of proper labeling and notification, this product could be in countless homes, lying in wait as a serious toxic health risk.
