Reebok Recalls Deadly Free Gift

March 2006

If your Reebok shoes came with a free gift, beware. Reebok and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled 300,000 heart-shaped charm bracelets given as a gift with the purchase of various styles of children’s footwear.

Reebok recalled the bracelet after a 4-year-old died from lead poisoning after swallowing a piece from one of the recalled bracelets. The jewelry contains high levels of lead that can cause poisoning and adverse health effects. The bracelets are 8 inches long with a heart-shaped charm. The name “Reebok” is engraved on the one side of the charm. Major shoe stores nationwide from May 2004 to May 2006 gave the bracelet away with shoe purchases between $33 and $50.

Consumers are urged to immediately dispose of the entire bracelet. For more information, contact Reebok at 800-994-6260.
