Lead Paint in Recalled Children's Cribs, Furniture, and Toys
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced two
manufacturer recalls of children's products due to high levels of lead.
Munfire Furniture has recalled a large number of cribs and matching
furniture while Woodstock Percussion has recalled toy drums.
The CPSC and Munire Furniture Inc.have initiated a voluntary recall of 9,000 pieces of "Newport Rubbed Black" 4-in-1 cribs and matching furniture. The items were sold from April 2006 through November 2008 in specialty furniture stores nationwide. The paint underneath the finish paint exceeds the federal lead limit. One child is reported to have ingested the paint, leading to a diagnosis of lead poisoning.
The CPSC and Woodstock Percussion Inc. recalled about 2,800 Calypso Steel Drums, sold from December 2006 through December 2007 through retail stores, websites and mail order catalogs. The surface paint on this product also exceeds lead limits.
