Faulty Kitchen Appliances Recalled Due to Safety Concerns
May 2008
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of
three dangerous products
that are commonly found in kitchens. It has been found that the defective
electrical appliances all pose fire hazards to consumers.
The largest of the three recalls includes 482,000 Hamilton Beach and Proctor Silex two- and four-slice toasters. The unsafe products can remain "on" even after they are done toasting and can cause nearby items to ignite. JCPenny recalled faulty deep-fat fryers with defective heating elements. Finally, QVC and Tristar recalled 13,500 Hulk Hogan's Ultimate Grill electric grills because cooking oil or spray can ignite when applied to the grill.
At least three burns have been reported in connection with the faulty products. The recalled appliances were sold at stores and online between May 2007 and February 2008.
