Two Major Toy Recalls Announced
June 2008
Two popular toys have been found to pose a safety risk to children,
prompting extensive
recalls of the dangerous products. Kids Station has recalled 1
million toy cell phones and Tradewinds International Enterprises Inc.
(TWIE) has recalled 152,000 remote-controlled helicopters.
Little Tikes Chit ‘N Chat Toy Cell Phones have hinges on the phone cover that can detach, posing a choking hazard to small children. The multi-colored Chit ‘N Chat Toy Cell Phones look like a flip-phone style cell phone and have model number KSL4010 or KSL8032, KSL8033, or KSL8051 printed on a sticker on the back. The defective toys were sold at stores nationwide from June 2006 through March 2008. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has received three reports of the toy breaking, including one report of a child beginning to choke on a small part.
The second dangerous toy recall affects “Sky Champion” Wireless Indoor Helicopters. The defective helicopters were sold at Walgreens stores nationwide from June 2007 through November 2007 and “BH26047” printed on the tail the recalled toys. The helicopter's rechargeable battery can ignite, and TWIE has received two reports of helicopters catching fire.
