Electric Toasters Recalled by QVC
December 2007
Think twice before you toast a slice – you may own an electric toaster
that could send your kitchen up in flames. QVC of West Chester,
Pennsylvania has issued a recall of 13,000 Cook’s Essential electric
toasters due to a defect that could lead to fires.
The faulty toasters were sold from May 2000 to May 2003 through QVC’s television shows, website, and outlet store. The recalled items are Cook’s Essential model CT200 two-slice toasters, featuring the brand name and model code printed on a plate stamped to the bottom of the electric appliance.
At least five incidents have been reported where the toasters have spontaneously turned on, leading to fires, property damage, and the potential for injury. This recall of the CT200 model comes less than three months after a recall of Cook’s Essential CET401 four-slice toasters, which posed a similar fire hazard.
