Wal-Mart Toys Join Growing List of Lead Recalls

October 2007

Recalled toys tainted with lead UPDATED ALERT – The latest addition to a growing list of toys recalled for lead paint and lead ingredients comes from Wal-Mart, which has pulled dinosaur, farm, and jungle animal toys from shelves. The recalled Wal-Mart animal toys come in themed packs featuring the following item numbers:

  • 714913
  • 751797
  • 751810
  • 751822
  • 776705
  • 776714
  • 776721
  • 788038
  • 788045

The realistic animal toys were found to contain unsafe levels of lead in their base material, meaning the toxic ingredients were not contained in the toys’ paint. This is the first lead-related recall of Wal-Mart toys in this year’s toy recall scare, but just one of many added to the expanding list that began when Mattel announced that millions of their toys were found to contain lead paint in August 2007.

September 2007

ORIGINAL RECALL ALERT – Parents – another slate of dangerous toy recalls for excessive lead content may affect the health of your child. Lead paint and lead ingredients have caused recalls of about 601,150 more toys including Thomas & Friends trains, gardening toys from Target and Jo-Ann Fabric, children’s jewelry, and more.

The largest recall comes courtesy of Target, which has pulled 350,000 Happy Giddy Gardening Tools and Children’s Sunny Patch Chairs for lead paint. Not to be outdone, RC2 Corp. has recalled 200,000 more Thomas & Friends railway toys for excessive lead levels. RC2 has also initiated a lead paint recall for about 800 Knights of the Sword toys.

Other notable lead paint recalls include 10,000 Guidecraft Puppet Theaters and 16,000 toy rakes sold exclusively at craft stores such as Jo-Ann Fabrics. About 14,000 pieces of TOBY N.Y.C. Children’s Jewelry and about 850 Children’s Spinning Wheel-Metal Necklaces have also been recalled due to their hazardous lead content found in their metal parts.
