Lead Paint in Halloween Toys and More
November 2007
Halloween may be over, but there’s still something to be scared about –
nearly 760,000 more items have been added to the growing list of toys
recalled for excessive levels of lead paint. Toys “R” Us, Family Dollar,
Jo-Ann Fabric, and more have announced recalls of products sold to
children that could cause lead poisoning and developmental disabilities.
Certain products purchased during this Halloween season may be harmful due to their lead content. Ugly Teeth party favors have been recalled from stores nationwide. These fake teeth may have been part of a child’s costume or given out as a trick-or-treat item. Family Dollar has recalled their Purple Halloween Pails that feature a green silhouette of a witch on a broomstick.
Other lead paint recalls include 380,000 Galaxy Warrior action figures, also sold at Family Dollar. Jo-Ann Fabric has increased their previous recall of children’s gardening toys by an additional 97,000 items. Toys “R” Us has announced a recall of their Elite Operations military action figures and accessories. Two other child products, SimplyFun Ribbit Board Games and Football Bobble Head cake decorations, have also been recalled for lead paint.
