Haier Toaster Ovens Recalled, Injuries Reported
April 2009
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall
of more than 100,000 Haier toaster oven/broilers. The faulty
electrical devices pose a shock and burn hazard, and four adverse
events have been reported.
The electrical connections in the toaster oven can become loose, possibly leading to electrical shock or burns. Haier America has received two reports of burns, one report of shock, and one report of property damage. The recall affects model number RTO1400SS, which is printed on a label on the back of the unit. The defective units are made of stainless steel and black plastic.
The toaster oven/broilers were sold at retailers nationwide from September 2006 through January 2009. Customers should immediately stop using them and contact Haier America to receive a free replacement.
