Frigidare and Kenmore Recall Electric Ranges
August 2009
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall
of approximately 200,000 Frigidaire and Kenmore smoothtop electric
ranges. The defective
products present a fire hazard to consumers.
The recall involves Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional and Kenmore Elite smoothtop electric ranges with rotary knobs and digital displays. The CPSC's website has a complete list of affected model numbers. The ranges were sold at retailers nationwide from June 2001 until August 2009.
Depending on the model, the ranges can do the following:
1. Turn on without being switched on
2. Fail to turn off after being switched off
3. Heat to different temperatures than those selected
Frigidaire has received 126 incident reports so far. There were four reports of minor burns and two reports of minor property damage. Consumers should stop using the recalled ranges and contact Frigidaire or Sears for a free repair.
