Infant Formula Recalled
September 2006
Abbott health care company is recalling 300,000 bottles of baby formula nationwide. The recall was prompted after discovering a special layer that seals out air was missing, causing the levels of Vitamin C to evaporate.
The recall includes 100,000 32-ounce bottles of Similac Alimentum Advance and 200,000 bottles of Similac with Iron.
Recalled formula details include:
- Similac Alimentum stock code 57512, lot no. 401895V with a use-by of “1 May 2007”
- Similac Advance with Iron stock code 55961, lot no. 40177RH or 40172RH and use-by of “1 November 2007”
- Similac Advance Hospital Discharge Kits stock code 58986, lot no. 41699D5
If infants drink the formula lacking vitamin C for two to four weeks, they can start to become irritable and may experience tenderness. Consumers should contact Abbott at 1-800-624-3412.
