FDA Recalls Risky Infant Formula
February 2006
Parents feeding their babies Gentlease powdered infant formula may be putting their little ones at serious risk. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a recall for the infant formula because it contains small metal particles.
To date there have been no injuries reported. However, if inhalation of the formula makes it to the lungs, these particles could present a serious risk to the infant’s respiratory system or lungs.
About 41,400 of the 24-ounce infant formula cans are part of the recall. The affected cans of Gentlease have lot number BMJ19 and the expiration/use by date of 1 Jul 07 embossed on the bottom of the can. Gentlease is manufactured by Mead Johnson Nutritionals, a unit of Bristol-Meyers Squibb Co.
Consumers who have a can of this batch of Gentlease powdered infant formula should not use the product and should contact Mead Johnson at 888-587-7275.
