Mattel / Fisher-Price Expanded Toy Recall

UPDATE – Mattel continues its massive string of toy recalls, this time for more unsafe lead paint. Fisher-Price brand Go Diego Go Animal Rescue Boats have been pulled from shelves after being cited for excessive amounts of lead in their surface paint. About 38,000 Go Diego Go boats have been recalled in the United States, with 55,000 items total recalled worldwide.

3RD ALERT – Mattel and Fisher-Price have announced another batch of recalls for toys containing dangerous lead paint. The items number in the hundreds of thousands, bringing the grand total of recalled Mattel / Fisher-Price toys to around 11 million.

Barbie accessories count for about 675,000 of the newly recalled products. Toy furniture and animal playsets may have been produced with lead paint. Exposure to lead in young children could cause health complications such as brain damage, developmental disabilities, and more.

Fisher-Price has pulled two different products from the market, both for violations of the U.S. lead paint standard. Around 90,000 Geo Trax Locomotive Toys may be tainted with the toxin. Also recalled are nearly 9,000 Big Big World 6-in-1 Bongo Band toys.

2ND ALERT – Mattel, the company responsible for the recall of nearly one million Fisher-Price toys containing lead paint, has added over 9.5 million more toys to its massive recall. Most of the toys have been pulled due to hazardous magnets. About 253,000 of the recalled toys were recalled due to a risk of lead poisoning.

Barbie, Batman, Doggie Day Care, and Polly Pocket have all been recalled by Mattel for their dangerous small magnets that could cause serious intestinal injuries. To date, three children have required surgery to remove Polly Pocket magnets that perforated their intestines. About 2.4M of the 7.3M Polly Pocket toys were originally recalled in November of 2006.

Lead paint continues to be found in Mattel products as “Sarge” toy cars based on the character from the Pixar movie, Cars, have been recalled. Lead poisoning is known to cause developmental disabilities and brain damage in young children.

1ST ALERT – Parents – this is an urgent alert regarding toys made for infants, toddlers, and children. Nearly one million Fisher-Price products have been recalled by their manufacturer, Mattel, due to a serious risk of lead poisoning.

The toys were painted in China using unauthorized materials containing lead. Exposure to the paint may cause lead poisoning, a condition linked to brain damage, developmental disabilities, and other serious problems in children.

About two-thirds of all tainted toys were pulled before they even reached store shelves. The toys that were sold to consumers may have date codes that read “109-7LF” and “187-7LF” on their packaging.
