Evenflo Majestic High Chair Recall
December 2008
About 95,000 Evenflo Majestic high chairs have been recalled
by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Evenflo
Company Inc. Plastic caps and metal screws can fall out of the
chairs, leading to seatback detachment and choking hazards.
There have been 140 reports of seatbacks falling off, causing 47 head bumps and bruises, 45 injuries such as cuts and abrasions, and two reports of broken bones. More than 1,000 reports were received of plastic caps and screws coming loose. In seven reported situations, caps and screws were removed from children's hands or mouths, which could have led to choking.
The high chairs were sold from January 2006 through May 2007 at Babies R Us, Burlington Coat Factory, Toys R Us, Shopko, and on walmart.com. The defective high chairs should no longer be used, but consumers can contact Evenflo to get a free repair kit. The CPSC press release contains a complete list of affected model numbers.
