Infant Deaths Prompt Crib Recalls
September 2007
A warning for parents of infants and young toddlers – your child’s crib
may be one of the nearly one million Simplicity or Graco brand cribs
recalled due to a risk of suffocation or entrapment. Simplicity Inc., a
Reading, Pennsylvania company, has initiated a recall of various cribs
due to faulty hardware and product design that have been linked to the
deaths of three infants.
The recalled cribs were sold nationwide from January 1998 through May 2007. The following models have been identified in the recall:
Graco brand cribs |
Simplicity brand cribs |

Both newer and older cribs are affected by the recall due to a flaw in their design that could lead to the incorrect installation of hardware, specifically the drop-side beam of the crib. If installed upside down, the drop-side can detach and trap children or lead to suffocation. So far, three deaths, seven entrapments, and 55 other dangerous incidents in these crib models have been reported.
