5,000 Chain Saws Recalled

3,400 Makita Chain Saws Recalled

Makita U.S.A. Inc. recalled 3,400 chain saws after reports that the flywheels came apart during use, causing serious personal injury.

The recall includes the Makita DCS6401and DCS7901 model saws with the last five digits of the serial number in the following ranges:

  • DCS6401 41915 through 45612
  • DCS6401 81722 through 82057
  • DCS7901 31182 through 31491

The recalled chain saws have teal cases with the brand name “Makita” on them. The chain saw serial number is on the right hand side of the silver nameplate located on the back of the fuel tank. The saws were sold from October 2005 through August 2005 by outdoor power equipment distributors and industrial contractor supply houses.

Consumers should call Makita at 1-866-714-3860, ext. 232, for more information and a free repair.

1,300 Dolmar Chain Saws Recalled

Dolmar Power Products also recalled 1,300 chain saws, citing the same reason as Makita-the flywheels came off during use.

The recall includes the Dolmar PS6400 and PS7900 model saws with the last five digits of the serial numbers in the following ranges:

  • PS6400 71998 through 79250
  • PS7900 40156 through 43009

The saw has a dark red case with the brand name “Dolmar” on it. The serial number is found on the right hand side of the silver nameplate on the back of the fuel tank. The saws were sold from October 2005 through August 2005 by outdoor power equipment distributors and industrial contractor supply houses.

Consumers should call Dolmar at 1-888-673-7278 for more information and a free repair.
