Child Safety Seat Recall

September 2005

If you own a Combi USA car seat to protect your child, you may have a false sense of safety. That’s because the manufacturer has recalled more than 6,000 of its Avatar model 8100 convertible car seats after discovering a potentially serious flaw with the LATCH strap.

LATCH is the universal connection system for child car seats and passenger vehicles in which connectors on the seat attach to anchors in the car. When the Avatar safety seat was crash tested in the rear facing position, it flew off the test rig and severed its LATCH strap.

The recall includes Avatar seats manufactured between November 2003 and May 2004. The model number and date of manufacture is found on the label located on the seat’s plastic base, under the seat cover.

If you registered your Avatar safety seat before July 30, 2005, you should automatically receive a LATCH repair kit and instructions. If you have questions, contact Combi USA at 1-800-992-6624 for more information.
