Bowflex Machines Recalled Due to Injury Risk
March 2009
Almost 80,000 Bowflex machines have been recalled
because they pose a safety risk to consumers. Nautilus, Inc. has
received 18 injury reports associated with the defective
machines, including lacerations that needed stitches and staples.
Nautilus said that the Bowflex Ultimate 2 home gym's horizontal seat rail is designed to be latched in a vertical position for storage. If the rail isn't manually latched, it can fall and injure anyone standing near the equipment.
The machines were sold at fitness retailers nationwide and through direct Nautilus sales from June 2005 through January 2009. "Bowflex Ultimate 2" is written on the vertical part of the frame. Consumers can continue to use the equipment for exercising but shouldn't place the seat rail in the vertical position until a repair is performed. Registered owners are being sent a free repair kit. Those who haven't received a repair kit by March 10, 2009 should call Nautilus at (800) 259-9019 or visit bowflex.com.
