Bausch & Lomb Notified in Fall 2005 of Infections
April 2006
Bausch & Lomb Inc. admitted to knowing about an increase of eye infections in Hong Kong in November of 2005, several months before they decided to halt their sales in that region. The November 2005 reports are the earliest known incidents reported to the contact-solution manufacturer.
Bausch & Lomb’s Renu with MoistureLoc has been connected to a rare eye infection in three countries, including the U.S. In the U.S., the infection has attacked 186 people in 27 states—up from 176 last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP). The solution was taken off the U.S. market on April 10.
Bausch & Lomb still hasn’t found the cause of the infection, but all the contaminated solutions were manufactured at their Greenville, SC plant.
