Allergic Reactions to Victoria's Secret Bras
November 2008
One of the world's most popular lingerie brands has come under
scrutiny. According to a potential class action lawsuit, consumers claim
that they have experienced some unexpected side effects – like permanent
scarring, rashes, and hives – from Victoria's Secret bras.
Long-time Victoria's Secret customer Roberta Ritter filed a lawsuit against the company last spring after she experienced inflamed, blistery welts that she alleges were the result of wearing the Angels Secret Embrace and Very Sexy Extreme Push-Up bras. Her lawyers said that dozens of other women have contacted them with similar claims regarding the brand's products. The company admitted that they have received direct complaints from customers about similar reactions.
The firm representing Ritter purchased the bra types named in the suit and sent them to a lab. It said that the bras tested positive for the chemical formaldehyde. Victoria's Secret has defended their manufacturing practices. A judge will decide in May if enough evidence exists to move forward with the case.
