Pennsylvania State Program Stops Aggressive Drivers
April 2007
Angry motorists beware - your days of road rage are numbered. The
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a new
initiative to crack down on aggressive driving, the number one cause of
fatal accidents. Titled Smooth Operator, the program will focus on
nabbing drivers running red lights and stop signs, making unsafe lane
changes, speeding, and tailgating.
Both local and state police will be involved in the Smooth Operator program, with 175 departments across the state involved. Officers are being trained and putting in overtime, intending to ticket as many offenders possible. The $2 million initiative has launched as of March 25.
