Nissan Recalls Over 650,000 Cars
November 2007
Drivers – winter weather and deteriorating road conditions aren’t the
only driving risks this holiday season. Nissan has issued a recall of
653,910 passenger vehicles that carry an engine defect which increases
the risk of car crashes.
Nissan Altima and Sentra 2002, 2005, and 2006 models with 2.5 liter engines have been recalled by the manufacturer. The crankshaft position sensor can potentially overheat, causing the sensor’s signal output to briefly cut out.
The interruption in signal output from the sensor can happen so quickly that electronic car components cannot properly diagnose the failure. If this happens, the engine may suddenly stop running, potentially causing a car accident if the driver loses control of the car.
